Big Boy Bed

We bought a toddler bed for Aiden several months ago but decided not to try making the move until a few months after the baby came home (one change at a time). However today I put the new bedding on the bed, moved Aiden's name to above the bed, and spent the afternood playing in the bed with Aiden.So tonight when I told Aiden it was time for bed he said "Aiden big bed?" ....hmmm could it be this easy. So we read a book and I tucked him into the big boy bed - after I left the room there was about 2 minutes of crying and then we watched him (on our new video monitor) climb into bed and we haven't heard a peep since !!

1st Bath

Isaac's umbilical cord FINALLY fell off this weekend so we had our first real bath on Sat. As you can see from the picture below he was not a fan (we have had a few baths since then and he has not cried at all).

Here is a long overdue update on Team Shelle.

Isaac is doing GREAT !! We went to the doctor last Monday (8/31) and he weighed in at 6lb 1oz and was still 20 inches long. The doc said that everything looked really good and since he is past his birth weight and not really a preemie (size wise) we don't have to go back until his one month check up. He continues to do great with the nursing despite being tongue tied (the doctor said that as long as he is eating they don't need to do any intervention for this). He is a very pleasant baby so far - only really fussing when he wants to eat or be held. Unfortunately he wants to eat about every 1 1/2 to 2 hours so that means not so much sleep for mom (though I have gotten really good at nursing in my sleep). We are hoping that he will start to sleep a little more but for now we are just going on Isaac's schedule.

Aiden continues to amaze me adjusting to the new addition. He is very interested in the baby, likes to pat his head, and gives him his paci (whether Isaac wants is to not) when he is fussing. He hasn't really shown any jealousy though we have worked really hard to make sure we are still giving Aiden the attention he needs. As of the 31st he is officially 2 which is just crazy to me - it seems like just yesterday that he was born.

As for us - Aaron has started another semester at CMU and I am enjoying maternity leave. Since our lives pretty much revolve around the boys now there is not much new to report about us :)

Aiden's Birthday

Despite the craziness of having a baby in the hospital we managed to do a little party for Aiden's Birthday on Saturday. We went up to the Sheridan cottage where all the Shelle's and some good family friends were staying for the weekend. We only stayed for the day but had a really good time. Aiden fully enjoyed his cake and presents and it was nice to see everyone. Of course the day was made even better since we got to pick up Isaac from the hospital that night!!

Aiden is very into cooking right now so the microwave and food set from Nana and Papa was a big hit.

It is amazing what a little ranch dressing can do when trying to get a picky toddler to eat some veggies (in fact he even dipped his strawberries in ranch ... mmmmm)

Big Steps

Sorry for the lack of blog posts - it has been pretty crazy balancing spending time with Aiden and being at the hospital ... welcome to being a mother of two :)This week has been a roller coaster for Isaac but he is finally doing much better. On Sunday the doctors decided that he was doing well enough to be taken off the ventilator and go back on CPAP. I was thrilled but unfortunately he did not do very well once off the ventilator and they kept warning me that he was probably going to have to be put back on. It was really scary to be in the RNICU and have all the doctors hovering around your baby and talking about how he wasn't doing very well. Luckily he got through the night without having to be put back on the ventilator and seemed to be stable on the CPAP.
Monday - Still on CPAP and being cooked by the bili lights.
This may have been good news to me but it was really bad news for Isaac since he HATED the CPAP. Having a big tube blowing air really hard up my nose doesn't sound like too much fun (I don't blame him). So while he was on the CPAP he cried ALL the time.
They FINALLY let me hold him monday night :)

Finally on Tuesday the doctor decided that if Isaac could cry THAT loud for THAT long, he probably didn't need the CPAP any longer and switched him to a nasal cannula for oxygen. With the CPAP off, Isaac suddenly became a very pleasant baby. Thank goodness because I was worried that we just might have a really crabby kid on our hands.

On Wednesday, they let him start nursing and bottle feeding, he did great!

By Thursday, out came the feeding tube and IV, off came the Oxygen, and he was moved into a

The plan (if everything keeps going well) is to bring him home THIS weekend! I am so excited to have him at home with us and not have to go back and forth to the hospital all the time.
This is after I gave him a bath and put him in some big boy clothes.
I can't believe how much he looks like his big brother.
